Hey everyone. Lolzaman here (a.k.a Ahmedz/KratosGirl/Derp on other sites). I just wanted to say how happy I am to see so many positive comments regarding my last 2 deviations (The Muffin Snatcher part 1 and 2). I would love to thank each and every one of you who liked them, but I'm afraid it's too much of a hassle, and that's why I published this journal.
To be honest, I've never seen myself as a good artist. I usually draw just for the hell of it. I've always wanted to upload some work on dA, but the lack of self confidence, intimidation and fear have prevented me from doing so (This account may be 2 years old, but it certainly isn't the first).
It was until recently that I've decided to man up and start drawing things for people to see, whether it as good or bad. If it wasn't for a few certain communities (hi guys!), I wouldn't have done anything by now. I also have to thank the wonderful team that brought us MLP: Friendship is Magic, and the people who drew some amazing fanart (mad props to all of you awesome artists out there!) to boost my confidence even more. I liked the drawings, and I said "Hey, I should contribute to the fanbase too!". Picked up my first tablet back in June, and started drawing ponies!
At first, my content were terrible (haven't uploaded them here...yet...), but I started to get better and better. Trust me on this one. If you see my early work, you would laugh your butts off. Hell, even I look back and laugh too xD
Now we jump to September, where I've decided to upload a little something to EqD (and cue Fezzes are Magic). I was pretty nervous. Even though friends of mine thought it was funny and good, I wanted to see what the rest of the Brony community thought of it. I drew the piece, shot it off to EqD, and it got featured in one of their Drawfriend Stuff articles. Now, this may not be a big deal to some of you out there, but to me, it kinda was
Never thought I'd see the day that my content would be up somewhere else that weren't uploaded by me. Then it started showing up in several other websites (like Facebook groups and Ponibooru). I was generally happy with what people thought about my deviation. it's been viewed and favorited in numbers I didn't really expect!
After that, I've wanted to try something different. I thought "Maybe a HHHHHHHNNNNNNNGGGGGG-worthy comic!". Found the right characters, thought of a nice sweet little story, 15 hours of combined work later (I'll get to that in a minute), it was finally done. Showed it to a few friends, and they loved it. Shot if off to EqD once more, and the feedback was tremendous! So tremendous that it even surpassed my first "big" deviation!
Now I've learned that whether an artist is good or not, it doesn't really matter when the content itself is good. Don't worry though. It doesn't mean that I'll draw crap with good content and expect nothing but positive feedback. It isn't right. I'll definitely try to improve from what I've done so far. Hell, everyone did. No one was born an amazing Pony artist xD
As for the length of my work, I usually take a long time when I draw things. A quick sketch takes around maybe 15 minutes, while the Fezzes Are Magic piece took around 10 hours combined (which includes all the Pony heads I've drawn before and the added extra in the final piece). I like to take my time when I draw something, and I really don't want to rush it (even though I've done some drawings that lasted me 3 hours in one sitting
).
Now, before I end this journal, I just wanted to thank everyone who's been supportive and helpful to me. Everyone at Canterlot.net, GameTrailers' MLP Faction, Ponibooru, Facebook, Twitter, Equestria Daily, Hasbro, everyone who've worked on Friendship is Magic, IRL friends, family, and finally, you.
This might've been the cheesiest thing you've ever read in a while, but I mean it. All of it.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have seriously made my day
~Lolzaman
Oh and just some quick notes regarding the comic's status when it comes to fanon (I hope I've said that right):
1- I'm aware that many of you consider Derpy /Ditzy to be living with Carrot Top, but I've wanted to have this comic specifically about Derpy/Ditzy and Screwball/Topsy Turvy in my own personal perspective of the two characters.
2- I'm also aware of Dinky, but again, same reason above.
3- When it comes to Derpy/Ditzy's name, I've noticed that some of you prefer the name Ditzy (since that's what she was technically referred to in the show), but I've always preferred the name Derpy. If you guys want, I can change the name to Ditzy next time :3
4- Some of you have mentioned how chaotic and hilarious it would be if both Derpy/Ditzy teamed up to empty Carrot Top's fridge. I've definitely got something in my mind, but will I make it? We'll just have to wait and see.
5- I dunno if any of you have noticed the little tear Derpy/Ditzy had on Part 2/Panel 6, but I wanted to have Screwball's comments in the previous Panel and Derpy/Ditzy to have some sort of connections. I recall some fan work on how Derpy/Ditzy was mocked for her having Derped eyes, so I wanted her to remember how Screwball felt when she mentioned her eyes (hence the large handwritten MY EYES ARE DIFFERENT). Emotional Strike FTW!
That's all I have to say. Once again, thanks everyone. Thanks for reading, and have a good day
